Immigration and a Jesuit Priest in El Paso: Father Rafael Garcia
Father Rafael Garcia fled from Fidel Castro's Cuba with his family when he was just nine years old and settled in Miami. He was pursuing a career in architecture and feeling fulfilled. However, when a major architecture project was postponed, Fr. Garcia unexpectedly had the time to take a long-desired pilgrimage to the Holy Land. While there, he felt a call to the priesthood that marked his life. Father Garcia now serves at the Sacred Heart Church in Segundo Barrio in El Paso, just a stone's throw from the border with Mexico.
